Beginner band is designed for students
with little or no musical experience. It is generally better to start in the sixth grade
as students who start later have difficulty catching up for the remainder of their musical
career. Each student will provide his/her own instrument, except in the case of a student
playing very large or expensive instruments such as euphonium, tuba, or french horn.
As long as inventory lasts, the school will provide these intstruments. A beginner instrument
drive is sponsored by local music companies each year to allow parents to purchase a new
or used instrument. Any parent wishing to purchase a used instrument from an individual should first
bring the instrument to the directors for inspection and approval. The beginner band performs at the Winter, Spring,
and Schlitterbahn Concerts. Students using a school instrument are required to acquire their own mouthpiece,
beginning band book, and BERP. See the directors for appropriate brands and sizes for mouthpieces.
Attendance at all scheduled rehearsals and performances is mandatory.
